Serial neuropsychological assessments are complicated to interpret due to practice effects, regression to the mean, and “normal” change in clinical conditions.

This presentation will introduce attendees to the two most common methods of assessing change (reliable change index, regression-based change formula) and how these formulae are calculated. Multiple case examples will be used to guide the presentation and allow attendees to understand how these change metrics are calculated and what they mean.

Finally, some of the presenter’s research on the ability of short-term practice effects to inform diagnosis, prognosis, treatment response, and brain pathology in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s disease will be discussed.
