Sluggish Cognitive Tempo (or Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome): Emerging Evidence and Evaluation in Clinical Practice
$30.00
Description
Evidence for Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS; previously labelled Sluggish Cognitive Tempo) has been expanding rapidly over the past decade, with growing interest in clarifying its causes, consequences, and correlates. This syndrome reflects a constellation of behaviors observed in youth and adults, including excessive daydreaming, mental confusion and fogginess, and slowed behavior and thinking. Although initial investigations of the construct grew out of work regarding attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, evidence suggests SCT/CDS has a unique pattern of associations and comorbidities with a similar epidemiology and profile across cultures. This presentation will share findings from a recent work group review of SCT/CDS, discuss cross-cultural research evidence, describe the rationale for a name change to CDS, and provide a sample case study in the context of an evidence-based assessment framework, with a goal of enabling the learner to assess the core SCT/CDS phenotype and its comorbidities.
